The paradise island nation of the Maldives re-opened its borders to travelers on the 15th July 2020. Worldwide travelers do not have to enter into a mandatory quarantine upon arrival, nor do they need to produce proof they have tested negative for coronavirus. There are also no new visa requirements or additional fees to pay. The guidelines provide everything you need to know about what to expect when you travel within the Maldives and the safety requirements service providers need to take as a minimum standard, to ensure your holiday is a safe and memorable trip.

The Maldives does have a geographic advantage as an archipelago. Individual islands provide a natural safe environment for visitors, especially with controls in place when entering and leaving. These individual resorts or local community islands can also be quickly shut down if a suspected case emerges, which was seen at the beginning of the pandemic in the Maldives.

Like many Maldives businesses, local tour company Secret Paradise are certainly looking forward to welcoming back guests. Whilst confined to their homes during lock down, the team were working hard behind the scenes to ensure guest’s comfort and safety, but without losing the memorable aspects of their experiences and service.

One of the best ways to make a positive contribution to your holiday destination is by booking with a company that puts something back into the local community and Secret Paradise do this in many ways. Partnering guesthouse properties that are owned and managed by locals. Employing only local guides who between them have years of local knowledge and expertise to share. Promoting local island tourism in line with Maldivian culture and beliefs. Educating both guests and locals on the environment in so doing limiting wherever possible any negative impact to the fragile eco system of the Maldives.

The team at Secret Paradise ensures that their sustainable actions are not just limited to their tours. The team are involved with local NGOs – Nonprofit making organizations that are independent of the government and focus on environmental and social issues. Supporting coral planting and reef rehabilitation programs, the protection of seagrass, local island clean up events and plastic recycling, activities which guests can also choose to be a part of.
